On Saturday, October 17, 2026, the Department of Media at Cihan University-Erbil organized a field visit to the Duhok office of Rudaw Media Network for second- and third-year students as part of their scientific and field trip to the city. The visit was conducted under the supervision of Assistant Lecturer Ahmed Jamal Hama Karim.
At the beginning of the visit, the supervising lecturer and students were warmly received by Mr. Sleman Alikhan, Head of the digital project Rudaw Rangin in Duhok. He expressed his pleasure at receiving the delegation and noted that it was the first academic delegation from a university to officially visit the Rudaw office in Duhok. He also highlighted the office’s important role in the Badinan region in providing timely news coverage, conducting on-the-ground reporting, and preparing specialized reports in the Badini dialect.
During the meeting, Mr. Sleman Alikhan explained the philosophy and objectives of Rudaw Rangin, an innovative digital platform developed by the network for social media. He explained that the project builds on Rudaw’s professional media tradition, which began with the launch of the Rudaw weekly newspaper in the spring of 2008 and continues to the present day.
He further explained that Rudaw Rangin aims to transform digital media practices in the region by promoting citizen journalism, encouraging members of the public to contribute as reporters, photographers, and writers, highlighting human-interest stories, and producing rich, comprehensive content in the Badini dialect across modern digital platforms. These efforts aim to enrich social media content, strengthen community awareness, and build closer connections between the media and the public.
Following the meeting, the students toured several sections of the office, including the newsroom, editing suite, transmission room, and main production studio. The tour provided them with practical insights into the daily operations of a professional media organization and the processes involved in news production and digital content delivery.
In conclusion, on behalf of the Head of the Media Department, the activity supervisor, Assistant Lecturer Ahmed Jamal Hama Karim, expressed his sincere thanks and appreciation to Mr. Sleman Alikhan and all staff members at the Rudaw Media Network office in Duhok for their warm hospitality and for providing the students with this valuable opportunity to gain practical insights into modern media practices and digital production workflows.
