Medical Laboratory Analysis Department Students Lead World Cancer Day Awareness Initiative Aligned with UN Sustainable Development Goals
In celebration of World Cancer Day, third-stage students from the Department of Medical Laboratory Analysis at Cihan University-Erbil organized and delivered an educational awareness seminar for students at Win International School on Wednesday, February 4, 2026. The activity was conducted under the supervision of Assistant Lecturer Narmin A. Ali as part of the students’ commitment to community engagement and public health education.
The seminar was carefully designed for young learners, using simple language, visual explanations, and interactive discussions to help children understand basic information about cancer, the importance of early awareness, and the role of healthy lifestyle choices in supporting overall well-being. Following the seminar, the students organized a range of enjoyable and educational activities that allowed the children to actively participate and reinforce what they had learned.
This initiative reflects the values of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly Goal 3: Good Health and Well-Being, by promoting health awareness from an early age; Goal 4: Quality Education, through inclusive and age-appropriate learning experiences; and Goal 17: Partnerships for the Goals, by strengthening collaboration between higher education institutions and schools.
Through this meaningful community-based activity, the students demonstrated that education extends beyond the classroom. The event highlighted the importance of social responsibility, teamwork, and awareness, showing how future health professionals can play an active role in educating, supporting, and serving society in line with global goals for a healthier and more sustainable future.
