Students from the second stage of the Department of Medical Laboratory Analysis at Cihan University–Erbil conducted a scientific awareness activity at Nawdarani Kurdistani School on Sunday, February 8, 2026.
First, the students were welcomed by Ms. Hiro, the principal of the school, the activity included an educational presentation titled “Viruses and Human Health.” The students explained, in a clear and simplified manner, what viruses are, how they spread, and the most common routes of transmission, such as respiratory droplets and direct or indirect contact. The session also focused on prevention strategies that serve as the first line of defense against infection, including proper hand hygiene, general cleanliness practices, avoiding close contact when symptoms appear, and following health guidelines within the school environment. In addition, the presentation briefly addressed general treatment approaches, emphasizing the importance of seeking medical advice and avoiding the use of medications without professional guidance.
Alongside the awareness component, the students performed a Packed Cell Volume (PCV) test for several school students. They explained the purpose of the test as a simple indicator related to blood status and highlighted the importance of correct sample collection and proper handling to ensure safety and result accuracy. This practical demonstration provided an interactive opportunity for the school students to observe laboratory procedures in a safe and accessible manner.
