Nutrition and Dietetics Department Students Visited Shady Hospital

On 26 September 2022 (Monday), the fourth-stage students of the Department of Nutrition and Dietetics of Cihan University-Erbil visited Shadi Hospital. This scientific visit was arranged and organized by their lecturer from the aforementioned department, Dr. Behnaz Shahrokhisahneh, as a complementary practice for their Nutrition Assessment subject.

Shadi Hospital, apart from screening for critical health issues and offering outpatient care services to ambulatory patients, has a primary health care section. This section provides the students the opportunity to console pregnant and lactating women and to discuss the nutritional risk factors and consequences of nutrition deficiencies during pregnancy as well as breastfeeding for both pregnant women and their infants.

The students also applied their nutrition and dietetics knowledge for the measurement of anthropometric data of children and infants, practicing plotting, and interpreting WHO and CDC growth charts for screening and monitoring malnutrition. Students in this visit perceived that this visit increased their nutrition assessment and consultation skills. They also found this visit useful to prepare them for their future career as a dietitian and nutritionist.
