Scientific Visit to the American Medical Complex Laboratory by Medical Laboratory Analysis Department Students
The Department of Medical Laboratory Analysis at Cihan University–Erbil organized a scientific visit for fourth-year students to the American Medical Complex Laboratory on Thursday, January 29, 2026, under the supervision of Assistant Lecturer Sally Khaleel Baqer.
The students were received by Mr. Peshwar Mohammed Saeed, the laboratory supervisor. During the visit, the students were introduced to the instruments and workflow used for hormone testing. A detailed explanation was provided of the hormone analyzer manufactured by Roche (Germany) and its operation within the laboratory setting.
The internal components of the analyzer were explained in a clear and structured manner. The students were informed that the system consists of several integrated sections, including a unit for sample placement and organized loading, a separate unit in which the test reagent is mixed with the patient’s blood sample under controlled conditions to ensure proper reaction, and an additional unit designed for the safe disposal of both solid and liquid waste generated by the analyzer, thereby preventing contamination and maintaining laboratory safety.
The explanation also covered how the sample progresses through the analytical stages inside the instrument, as well as how the signal produced by the reaction is detected and converted into a numerical value representing the concentration of the target analyte in the patient’s sample. Emphasis was placed on factors influencing result accuracy, including proper sample integrity, correct operating procedures, and strict adherence to laboratory quality requirements. In addition, the supervisor highlighted the importance of verifying the validity of reagents and consumables, performing routine calibration and performance checks, and interpreting results within approved reference ranges before issuing the final laboratory report.
