Students from the Department of Nutrition and Dietetics Explored the Importance of Blood Donation at the Blood Donation Center
On Tuesday, March 4, 2025, fourth-year students from the Department of Nutrition and Dietetics at Cihan University-Erbil conducted an educational visit to the Blood Donation Center under the supervision of Assistant Lecturer Raghad Jomurd.
Upon arrival, the students were warmly received by Mr. Abbas Mohammed, who provided them with a detailed explanation of the donation procedures, safety protocols, and necessary medical screenings to ensure the quality and safety of donated blood. They also learned about the classification, analysis, and storage of blood samples following medical standards before they are transfused to patients in need.
During the visit, the staff highlighted the health benefits of blood donation, such as stimulating the production of new blood cells, improving circulation, and reducing the risk of certain cardiovascular diseases. Additionally, the discussion emphasized the importance of regular blood donation to maintain adequate blood supply in hospitals and medical centers, particularly in emergencies.
They showed great interest in the topic, engaging in interactive discussions with the specialists. They also asked various questions regarding the eligibility criteria for donors, recommended intervals between donations, and the role of nutrition in blood regeneration after donation.
At the end of the visit, the students and their supervisor expressed gratitude to the staff of the center for their insightful presentations. They also emphasized the significance of promoting blood donation awareness within the community to support the healthcare system and save lives.
