The Department of Architectural Engineering visits Rizgary Hospital

The Department of Architectural Engineering in the Faculty of Engineering at Cihan University-Erbil organized a field trip for fourth-year students to Rizgary Hospital. The purpose of the visit was to assist students to relate to their required design course and to show them how hospitals function as buildings from an architect’s perspective.

Asst. prof Dr. Sana Omar, and Asst. Lecturer Asma Ahmed accompanied the students on their tour of the hospital’s facilities and departments, as well as the spatial functions offered within the building. As the students toured the various areas and sections of the hospital, Mr. Lafaw a member of the Rizgary hospital staff supervised and accompanied them, he explained the design elements of the spaces and the relationship between the departments.

This visit was beneficial for the students because it helped them to connect the theoretical concepts they were introduced to in class to actual buildings and architecture. Students were introduced to fundamental design considerations that can be applied to future endeavors and learned how to perceive and evaluate hospitals as functional architectural projects.
