Architectural Design II Class Scientific Trip to Cambridge International School-Capital City
The Architectural Engineering Department of Cihan University-Erbil organized a scientific visit to Cambridge International School-Capital City in Erbil on 23 February 2023 (Thursday) involving the second-year students. The main purpose of the trip was to assist students to relate to their required Design II course. Another purpose of the scientific visit was to demonstrate to students how schools function as buildings from the architect’s perspective.
Asst. Lect. Asmaa Ahmed, and Asst. Lect. Mays Hadad accompanied the students when touring around the school’s facilities and departments, as well as the spatial functions offered within the building. As the students toured the various areas and spaces of the school, Mr. Paywand, a member of Cambridge School staff who supervised and accompanied them on the excursion, explained the design elements of the spaces and the relationship between the zones.
This visit benefited the students of the spring-semester design assignment, as it is related to the theoretical concepts of actual buildings and architecture that were introduced to them in the class. Students were introduced to fundamental design considerations that can be applied to future endeavors. They were taught how to perceive and evaluate schools as functional architectural projects.
