The Department of Informatics and Software Engineering Received an Award at the Kurdistan Universities Forum for Research and Projects
On Sunday, 3rd December 2023, the Department of Electrical Engineering at Salahaldeen University hosted the inaugural forum for Kurdistan universities focusing on research and distinguished projects for students and graduates, under the slogan ‘Exploring Knowledge and Innovation’. It was held in the presence of a large number of academic staff from the universities of Kurdistan and Cihan University – Erbil. Both Prof. Dr. Abdul Sattar Karim Saeed, Assistant to the University President, and Lecturer Firas Muhammad Zaki from the Informatics and Software Engineering Department attended the event.
Graduate students (Ali Sami, Botan Kamran, and Muhannad Abdel Hamid) from the Informatics and Software Engineering Department participated in this forum with their project titled ‘Vein Finder’, supervised by the Head of the Department Assistant Lecturer Adel Hussein Muhammad. He supported in solving the problem, and with the presence of many patients that are impossible to see with the naked eye. They presented the first model of the written project and the final developed product to the attendees, pledging to provide free models to governmental hospitals. It is important to note that the project secured first place in the Kurdistan region in a specialized competition in Iraq and received praise from most of its local channels.
The meeting was translated into several scientific languages, namely English, French, and German, owing to the significance of the topic in serving the public good. All attendees praised their efforts in achieving the vision of Cihan University – Erbil and the Informatics and Software Engineering Department, where students’ ideas and projects transform into a meaningful process that can be applied, including community service.
