The Department of Interior Design Engineering Visit to the Royal Mall
On Wednesday, February 5th, 2025, the Department of Interior Design Engineering at Cihan University-Erbil organized a scientific visit to the Royal Mall, providing third-year interior design students with a unique opportunity to analyze spatial organization and key entertainment facilities, including gaming centers, cinemas, and cafés. Under the supervision of Assistant Lecturer Lana Shahab Ahmed and guided by Ms. Hishmat Narnji, the visit aimed to deepen students’ understanding of spatial arrangement and functional zoning in commercial entertainment spaces.
During the visit, students observed and analyzed several critical design strategies, including optimizing spatial efficiency through the strategic placement of venues to enhance user experience and traffic flow, integrating aesthetics with functionality in leisure spaces, and focusing on human-centered design to ensure comfort, accessibility, and engagement for diverse visitors.
At the end of the visit, students reflected on how these design elements contribute to the overall success of a commercial space. This initiative aligns with the university’s sustainability goals by promoting informed design decisions that prioritize economic viability, social inclusivity, and environmental responsibility.
The Department of Interior Design Engineering fosters critical thinking and problem-solving skills by exposing students to real-world case studies, preparing them to create sustainable, functional, and aesthetically compelling spaces. Such scientific visits remain essential to the university’s educational strategy, ensuring that students not only acquire theoretical knowledge but also develop the practical skills necessary for professional excellence in interior design engineering.
