The Department of Nutrition and Dietetics Students Gain Practical Knowledge at Sardam Hospital Laboratory

On Thursday, February 6, 2025, fourth-stage students from the Department of Nutrition and Dietetics at Cihan University-Erbil, under the supervision of Assistant Lecturer Mohammed M. Hussein, visited Sardam Hospital to gain practical knowledge on laboratory testing and its connection to nutrition.

Upon arrival, the students were warmly welcomed by Ms. Nian Ahmed, the laboratory supervisor, who introduced them to the hospital’s laboratory facilities. During the visit, the students learned about various laboratory tests related to nutrition, including blood glucose levels, lipid profiles, liver function tests, kidney function tests, and vitamin and mineral assessments. Ms. Nian Ahmed explained how these laboratory tests play a critical role in diagnosing nutritional deficiencies and metabolic disorders. The session also emphasized the importance of collaboration between laboratory specialists and nutritionists in developing personalized dietary plans based on lab results.

This visit provided students with a practical understanding of the role of laboratory diagnostics in nutrition care. It enhanced their ability to interpret lab results, assess nutritional status, and apply clinical findings to patient dietary management, strengthening their professional skills for future careers in nutrition and dietetics.

At the end of the visit, Assistant Lecturer Mohammed M. Hussein thanked Ms. Nian Ahmed for the valuable experience shared with the students.
