The 7th Scientific Conference for Outstanding Graduation Projects at Cihan University–Erbil Marks a Milestone for the Department of Law and International Relations and Diplomacy
On Sunday, April 28, 2025, the Seventh Scientific Conference for Outstanding Graduation Projects witnessed remarkable participation by students from the Department of Law at Cihan University in Erbil. During the conference, which concluded its activities today, the students presented a diverse range of research projects that reflected the depth of their understanding of contemporary legal issues and their ability to provide innovative solutions.
The submitted projects were distinguished by their high quality of research and analysis, addressing vital topics that touched upon various aspects of law, including civil, criminal, international law, and human rights. Members of the scientific committee supervising the conference praised the outstanding level of research presented by the students of the Department of Law at Cihan University, emphasizing the importance of such participation in enriching scientific dialogue and promoting legal research in the region.
Among the participating research projects was a study entitled The Legal Protection of Personal Data in the Age of Artificial Intelligence, presented by students Mohammed Zaid Khader, Shorish Faris Younis, Naji Ahmed Mohammed, and Ali Ziyad Najat, and supervised by Assistant Lecturer Hisham Hashim Mikael. This research addressed various legal aspects of protecting individuals’ data and maintaining its confidentiality across different sectors. Another research project, The Legal System of Cryptocurrencies (Bitcoin as a Model), was conducted by students Binar Bashko Ahmed, Amani Osama Jaber, and Alaa Badran Jamal, under the supervision of Dr. Omar Zubair Thahir. This study discussed the existing legislative gap in regulating and controlling cryptocurrencies in Iraq due to their novelty.
Additionally, a research project titled The Role of the Federal Supreme Court in Resolving Disputes Between the Regional Government and the Federal Government was presented by students Walaa Ali Thahir, Abdulbasit Aziz Lashkari, Ahmed Mohammed Mamand, and Sever Sardar Abdul Hamid, supervised by Assistant Professor Dr. Ibrahim Ahmed Abdul. This research examined the role of the Federal Supreme Court and highlighted key decisions issued to settle disputes between the central and regional governments. Another study, The Role of the International Criminal Police Organization (Interpol) in Combating Transnational Crimes, prepared by students Arin Subhi Nouri, Mirna Mukhlis Yalda, and Roya Bozan Muslim, and supervised by Assistant Professor Dr. Ibrahim Ahmed Abdul, explored the role of Interpol in extraditing criminals between countries and the major challenges faced in the modern era.
Finally, a political research project entitled The Power of Grace in World Politics was presented by students Juma Ibrahim Khadr, Saif Abdullah Saif Ranya, and Hussein Adnan. Their research discussed the concept of soft power in global politics and analyzed its use as a strategic tool in contemporary international relations.
The participating students expressed their happiness with the opportunity to present their efforts and discuss their ideas with a select group of academics and researchers. They emphasized that this experience contributed to the development of their research abilities, leadership skills, and critical thinking capacities.
